Background and Experience
​​Jim Soressi has over 30 years of experience as a tax attorney in the practice of estate planning, business planning and estate administration.

IRS Experience
He began his career as an Estate Tax Attorney for the Internal Revenue Service where he conducted field audits of estate tax returns and fiduciary income tax returns. This education and experience provided an excellent foundation in determining the design of estate plans under the law and addressing estate administration issues.

Life Insurance Experience
He later joined a major insurance company in its advanced underwriting department where he worked with high net worth individuals and closely held business owners in designing basic and sophisticated estate plans. This also encompassed establishing business succession plans for closely held businesses as well as non-qualified executive benefit planning for key employees. It often involved creative and integrated planning and drafting to accomplish the client's goals with preferred tax results.

Legal Experience
Before starting his private practice, Jim also worked at a prominent Long Island law firm where he concentrated on creating and drafting innovative and sophisticated estate plans while minimizing income, gift, estate and generation skipping taxes.

While with the law firm, he also handled all aspects of estate administration. This included probate proceedings, estate administration regarding asset gathering and valuation, preparation of Federal and New York State estate tax returns, handling and negotiation of estate tax audits, and preparation of and settlement of formal and informal accountings.

Teaching Experience
Jim is a member of the adjunct faculty at Long Island University, CW Post Campus, and Molloy College in Rockville Centre, where he teaches the Probate course in its Paralegal Program. He is also a faculty member of, an internet based continuing legal education provider, where he has taught the course "Business Succession Planning: Family Business Issues" and “Understanding Life Insurance In Estate and Business Planning.”  In addition, he has presented various topics at the Society for Financial Services Professionals annual meetings and webinars for Strafford Publishing.

Throughout his career, Jim has also authored numerous articles in the estate and business planning areas and has lectured extensively on these subjects across the country.

Jim prides himself on explaining both basic and advanced estate planning concepts into an easy and understandable experience, joking that he is bi-lingual, speaking both English and "legalese."  He also ascribes to the theory that if there is a simple method to achieve the goal, that is usually the best for the client.

Practice Areas
The focus of the practice is addressing the estate and business planning needs of clients, emphasizing accomplishing their goals while minimizing gift tax, estate tax, generation skipping tax and income tax. Many clients are closely held business owners who also require business succession planning and non-qualified executive benefit planning to recruit, retain and reward key employees imperative to the success of the business.
